Healing from Relational trauma and CPTSD/PTSD

  • Relational trauma occurs when our relationship to others feels unsafe, chaotic or unpredictable. Betrayal, emotional neglect, abuse in the family system, or toxic relationships experienced over a prolonged period of time can contribute to complex trauma. Do you struggle with self-esteem, anxiety, perfectionsim, chronic fatigue/health issues, or having low expectations from others? Possibly you struggle with negative self-talk as the result of your family history, bullying, or experiencing narcissistic abuse and coercive control in an intimate relationship. Interpersonal trauma can affect your physical and mental health as well as your emotional wellbeing. EMDR therapy can help address negative self-talk to reprocess old patterns and belief systems.

Therapy that is restorative and trauma-informed…

Restorative psychotherapy utilizes a holistic approach to help reduce anxiety and chronic. stress to improve overall physical and mental health as well as emotional well being. Often chronic fatigue and other health related issues are exacerbated by prolonged emotional distress.

Trauma can bypass memory and store past traumatic events in the body that manifest when triggered. Trauma can be experienced as hypervigilance, anxiety, disordered eating, anger, perfectionism or isolation and social withdrawal. These trauma-like states of being are what are referred to as Fight-Flight-Freeze and Fawn.

Sessions may utilize EMDR to address past trauma and incorporate mindfulness techniques, lifestyle assessment and somatic approaches to improve wellbeing and restore balance so that you can feel present in your daily life. Self-care following emotional or physical abuse is critical to healing. Together we will structure a plan to help improve self-care practices that you can easily access in your daily life beyond your therapy sessions.
